Living Witness Limited was incorporated in 1984 as a private limited liability company. It has since then been engaged in the execution of one of its primary objects which is being a food preparing and manufacturing company in all its ramifications. The company which started off on a very small scale with a snacks sales outlet, later branched out into catering services, manning on of the University of Lagos students cafeterias for 4yrs. Later it went into Animal Husbandry where it specialized in the rearing of pigs and the provision of pork meat for domestic market as well as some local industries already in the production of breakfast sausages as well as other cold meat rolls.
With time realizing the need to add value to the pork meat being produced on its farm in order to have better returns, the company decided to go into sausage roll production. Thus the first experiments done in house were conducted using pork meat. However, further feasibilities indicated the high market resistance to pork meat of a segment of potential consumers both for religious and perceived hygiene reasons. It was therefore decided that beef be used as the filling of the sausage roll instead of pork.
The company briefly got involved in sandcrete block making as an anxilliary business meant to tide it over pending its re entry into food preparation at an enhanced level. Thereafter, it has launched itself fully into the production of beef sausage rolls, building from own resources its current factory site. This site has been the home of its operations over the last 11yrs with necessary modifications and expansions being made along the way till it got to its present size. We look back with gratitude to God for how far He has brought us. We also acknowledge the assistance of all financial institutions with whom we have had dealings up till now.
The company which took off with a nominal but fully paid up share capital of N10,000 in 1984 had this increased first to N1m,then N10,000,000 ordinary shares of N1.00 each, and now 60,000,000 million shares of N1.00 each in 2005 when Zenith Bank Plc took up 15 % of its share under the SMEISS programme of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The current shareholders are the executive directors of the company and Zenith Bank Plc.Its business philosophy is to earn reasonable profit from all its undertakings whilst doing its business with the highest ethical standards as well as providing its customers with value for their money.
The company which started off with a staff of 4 (this included the two executive directors) in 1996 now employs about 120 people. The factory too has grown from 2 small rooms to its present factory size. Management size has naturally grown and is still growing to accommodate men and women who are experts in their own fields.
Our mission is to produce consistently high quality products, in order to satisfy the needs of our consumers, thereby generating strong brand loyalty, as a result of the efforts of a team of disciplined and committed workforce’
The food industry anywhere has great potentials what with the teeming population in our land and the baking segment of it in which we have found ourselves still has a lot of untapped potentials. We intend to explore them as much as God enables us. The market is wide and still has room for new entrants in the area of bread making, biscuit making and the introduction of other interesting products. The ingredients/raw materials of the baking industry also open up interesting products which presently are being imported by other industries.
